In order to expedite the seminar process, the following preparations should be made by the site before the seminar begins. These preparations will need to be done by the appropriate system / DBA personnel and by the participants.
This guide has been divided into three sections each one pertaining to a particular part of the seminar environment at your site, with each section having specific needs and requirements.

The Environment
The training environment needs to be set up as follows:
The following files should be loaded (or restored) and the DDMS generated with comments. These files should be ready to access from the training libraries. Please make these files as clean as possible. If these files have been used for training in the past, or are used for self study and may contain "dirty" data, please reload them with clean records.
The documentation for the EMPLOYEES-FILE and VEHICLES-FILE supplied by SAG should be loaded into the training FDIC when the files are restored.
The DDMs for EMPLOYEES and VEHICLES should be available in the training libraries, and made update accessible to the trainees.
Each trainee should have a user-id which will allow them into the training environment. It is preferable that each trainee be given a training library to work in, so that each user-id has an associated training library. If this is not possible at your site, please create a training library which all trainees have access to.
The Facilitator should have a user-id and library with the same set up as the trainees.
The Facilitator should also be able to access SYSMAIN and be able to SYSMAIN from the Facilitator library to all trainee libraries.
Training libraries and EMPLOYEES and VEHICLES files should be unsecured.
Security and any other environment settings should be the same as the Natural development environment at your site.
Each participant and the Facilitator should have access to the following utilities in each library in the training environment:
XREF
LIST XREF
SYSPROF
SYSPROD
DEBUG
STRUCT
SCAN

The Participants
Each seminar participant should have or know the following:
A NATURAL user-id which allows access to the designated training library.
Access and use of the following ADABAS files:
Each participant should be instructed in how to access NATURAL using the user-id and password given to them for training.
Each participant should have completed the Self Study Guide - Using NATURAL (available at www.accesstrhodes.com).

The Training Area
The seminar area should have certain items available for use by the participants:
The seminar materials, if sent ahead.
1 desk and chair per participant.
1 terminal per 2 participants (minimum).
1 White board with eraser and markers. If not available, a chalk board (with chalk and erasure) or flip chart (with 2 new pads plus suitable pens) may substitute.
1 terminal with a projection hookup. If not available, an LCD projection panel compatible with an IBM PC may be substituted. (If neither of these is available, this should be dealt with by contract prior to the facilitator's arrival, since this may cause additional expense.)
Any special equipment or facilities needed by physically-challenged participants.
1 copy of each - a current NATURAL Reference Manual and Developer's guide (optional).
1 easily accessible printer (optional).
4 copies of current site programming standards (optional).

Having the environment, classroom and participants set up and ready to go will ensure a smooth seminar and a valuable learning experience for your staff. The suggestions and requirements listed in this guide will help you prepare your site for the seminar you have chosen.
